Attendance
At Fountains High School, we believe that every day in school matters. Good attendance is one of the most important factors in ensuring that students achieve their full potential -academically, socially, and emotionally. Regular attendance helps students build confidence, maintain friendships, and develop the routines and resilience needed for adult life.
We appreciate your support in making sure every student attends every day.

School Attendance Guidance for Parents
Why Good Attendance is Important
When students attend school consistently, they:
- Make steady progress in all subjects
- Develop positive relationships with staff and peers
- Build essential life skills such as punctuality, organisation, and responsibility
- Feel more connected to their school community and learning
Missing even a small amount of time can create gaps that are difficult to catch up on. Being in school, on time, every day is the best way to support long-term success.
Our Commitment to Supporting Families
We understand that sometimes difficulties can impact attendance. Our Attendance and Inclusion Team is here to work with families in a sensitive and supportive way.
- We aim to:
- Identify concerns early
- Offer practical spport
- Remove barriers to attendance
- Work collaboratively to find solutions that fit each child’s needs
We are committed to ensuring that no family feels they need to manage challenges alone.
Reporting an Absence
If your child is unable to attend school, please notify us as soon as possible on the first day of absence. This helps us ensure your child’s safety and allows us to offer support where needed.
You can report absences via:
- Phone School Office: 01283 247580
- Email: enquiries-high@fountains.staffs.sch.uk
Please provide a brief explanation for the absence so we can record it accurately.
Punctuality
Arriving on time is just as important as being present. A calm and punctual start to the day helps students feel settled and ready to learn. Regular lateness can disrupt learning and impact confidence, so we encourage families to build strong morning routines.
Working Together
Improving attendance is a team effort. By working in partnership with parents and carers, we can ensure that every student has the best possible chance to succeed. We appreciate your support in helping us make school attendance a priority. Together, we can make every school day count.
